Course Sweepers will ride their bike behind the last runner and carry a race radio. Sweeper must periodically check in with HQ via radio to notify them of location. Sweeper must provide their own bicycle and helmet, and must wear helmet at all times.

Lead Cyclist position for the Half Marathon & 8K is reserved for advanced cyclists; two other cyclists are needed for leads though- one for the Kids 2-Mile Run, and one for the Kids 1-Mile Run. Lead cyclists must provide their own bicycle and helmet, and must wear helmet at all times.

*Time Slot #1 (2:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.): You also need to help set up check-in from 2:00 - 3:00.

*Time Slot #2 (4:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.) : You also need to help clean up and break down check-in from 7:00-7:30.

*Time Slot #3 (6:30 a.m. - 8:00 a.m.) : You MUST be on site and in position by 6:30 AM.

Course Marshals are vitally important for a safe and successful race! They are stationed along the entire length of the course to keep runners safe and on course. They direct runner traffic and cheer on runners enthusiastically. Some of these shifts are a tad long and it is highly recommended you wear comfortable shoes, clothing, bring water/snacks, and even a chair depending on location assigned. You must check in at the volunteer check-in on Wednesday, October 9 from 11 a.m. -1 p.m. at the Salem Parks & Recreation Office or at Packet Pick-Up at the Salem Farmers Market on Friday, October 11 from 3 - 7 p.m.

Course Work

Course Marking High Priority

Volunteers to assist marking the course. You will meet with the race director at 8 a.m. to learn to how to mark the course. After this 30 minute training, teams of 2 people will go out and mark sections of the course. Requirements: must be able to read a map and have a good sense of direction.

Course Breakdown High Priority

Volunteers will assist in breaking down, cleaning, organizing and putting away banners, tables, coolers, tents, signs, radios, etc. Must be able to lift 40 pounds and work at a steady pace.

General Volunteer Medium Priority

Details

This position will be assigned on the day of the race to fill-in where volunteers have not shown up. Must be flexible, like excitement and be available to move to specific areas on the course. A KNOWLEDGE OF THE COURSE AREA IS VERY IMPORTANT. Flexibility is key!

Medical Volunteers

You must be 18-100 years old to volunteer for this task.

All medical volunteers must be currently certified as an EMT, Paramedic, LPN, RN, PA or MD and must submit credentials prior to race day.
